Pulse Secure VPN Client

Lincoln University has implemented a security-based access control to their SSL VPN service, pulse.lincoln.ac.nz
Users will be UNABLE to connect to the SSL VPN unless their device meets certain minimum security standards which vary depending on the type of device.

 

  1. All devices need an up to date version of the Pulse Secure VPN client or will be denied access
  2. All windows devices need to have a firewall enabled, automatic patching enabled and Antivirus enabled. If you do not meet this standard, you will be unable to connect
  3. For other platforms the requirements will vary.

For Windows users the version available via the Store is unsuitable.
Please visit http://ithelp.lincoln.ac.nz/Software/Software-download-service/ to download an updated Pulse Client for your Windows or MAC device.
The iphone store and Google Playstore versions of the client will work.

Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10 

Follow below instructions to set up the VPN connection:

  1. Download from Software download page: http://ithelp.lincoln.ac.nz/Software/Software-download-service/ 
  2. Save the file, all download files are zipped - please extract them before you install.  To extract a zip file:  right-click  it and select Extract All.
  3. Double click on the extracted file (msi) and follow the install instructions 
  4. Once installed you should see the Pulse Secure icon in the status bar. Click on it and select open Pulse /Secure.
  5. Click on the add symbol in the top right, Fill-in the following:
    Name: pulse.lincoln.ac.nz
    URL: https://pulse.lincoln.ac.nz
  6. Click connect.
  7. Put your username and password , and tick save password
  8. Click connect

 

 

Mac Computers  

Follow below instructions to set up the VPN connection:

  1. Download Apple Mac VPN client off the Software Download page. http://ithelp.lincoln.ac.nz/Software/Software-download-service/
  2. Double click on the installer file.
  3. This will map a drive to the desktop which we will remove later.
  4. Open PulseSecure.pkg and follow the install instructions.
  5. Once installed you should see the Junos Pulse icon in the status bar. Click on it and select open Pulse Secure.
  6. Click on the add symbol in the bottom left to and a new VPN connection.
  7. Enter the following details and press add.
  8. Name the connection: Lincoln VPN
  9. Server Name is pulse.lincoln.ac.nz
  10. Now click on Connect.
  11. Enter you Lincoln University login details into the username and password field and press connect.
  12. The Pulse Secure icon in the status bar will show up with a green tick once it has successfully connected.
  13. Finally you want to remove the Pulse Secure mapped drive. You do this by right clicking on it and select Eject.

Android 

  1. Install Pulse Secure from the Google Play Store.
  2. Using the GUI fill in your Lincoln credentials.
  3. Pulse.lincoln.ac.nz
  4. LU Username
  5. LU Password

The app can be used to connect to HUB and Lincoln intranet webpages. Mapping share drives is not automated on Android currently.

 

 

IPhone / iPad  

  1. Install the Pulse Secure app from the App Store.
  2. Using the GUI, fill in your Lincoln credentials
  3. pulse.lincoln.ac.nz
  4. LU username
  5. LU Password

The app can be used to connect to HUB and Lincoln intranet webpages. Mapping share drives is not automated on iPhone currently.
