What is Office 365?

Office 365 is a cloud based email service provided through a partnership between the University and Microsoft using Microsoft’s Office 365 service.

It will allow you access from anywhere to your Lincoln email, contacts, personal calendar and includes mobile access, file editing and sharing using office web apps. These key features are outlined below.

Outlook Web App
Feature rich web browser access to your University email, contacts and personal calendar.

Office Web Apps
Create and edit Microsoft Office documents in your web browser.

  • The Office Web Apps include Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and OneNote

Microsoft Teams

This has been enabled for both Students and Staff.

How do I access Office 365?

  •  Go to Login with your email address and your Lincoln network password.

Getting the latest version of Office 365 for FREE

As a registered Lincoln student or active staff member, you are able to download, install and use Office 365 on your personal device (Windows or Mac Operating System) while you are enrolled, for free.

  1. Login to Office 365 emails at using your Lincoln University Email address and network password.
  2. Click on "Office 365" in the top left-hand corner.
  3. Click on the "Install now" button.


Activating Office 365

After installing Office 365, you will get prompted to sign in to activate the software. You need to do this to be able to edit documents and save to OneDrive.

Steps A:
 - Open one of the Office applications, like Word.
 - If an activation window pops up, enter your full Lincoln email address.
 - If prompted, choose Work or School account.
 - Enter your Lincoln account password.

If Office is already installed on your computer or you were signed out, follow the steps below.

Steps B:
 - Open one of the Office applications, like Word.
 - Have a look at the top right corner under Minimize
 - Click Sign In if you are not already signed in. Follow Steps A above.
 - If you are signed in, click your name and make sure you are signed in with your Lincoln account.
 - Switch account if needed to change to your Lincoln account.



Microsoft Office on Mac

Before you download Microsoft Office for Mac you need to know what version of OS X you have. Find this version number by clicking on the Apple logo at the top left-hand corner and click on About This Mac

  • If you have 10.10 or higher you will be able to download Microsoft Office 2016.
  • If you have 10.7 or higher, you will be able to download Microsoft Office 2011.

Do you have Microsoft Office already installed? No problem! You can register your copy of Office by opening up any Microsoft Office program and sign into an existing Office 365 subscription with your Lincoln University email address .



Your license to Microsoft Office 365; including all five (5) Office 365 activations, your email, OneDrive for Business, Skype for Business etc depends on your enrolment status remaining current. When you graduate, complete, or otherwise discontinue your enrolment with Lincoln there are changes to your use of these services.

Please note twelve (12) months after you complete your enrolment as a Lincoln student your licence to Office365 including up to five Office 365 activations which includes the online version of Microsoft Office 365, OneDrive for Business, OneNote etc expires. We will remind you by email closer to this time.
